20 Years Later is a documentary theatre performance created through testimonies and interviews with people ages 20 and under, regarding how and what they have been taught about the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and how the events that day has impacted their lives. The purpose of this performance is to create a conversation around how we pass history, defining events and memories onto the next generation and explore how media, specifically social media “creates memories” and distributes knowledge.
A 15-minute excerpt of this performance was presented at the Martin E. Segal Center as part of the 2019 "Screening Performance; Performance Screens" conference. This workshop was streamed on HowlRound (the performance begins at 11:35 on this).
20 Years Later is expected to debut in September 2021 for the 20th Anniversary of 9/11.
Any person who is under 20 and interested in contributing a testimony or potentially interested in auditioning for the full production should contact Ashley via the contact form on this website.
